{"id":2518,"date":"2026-05-29T17:35:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:35:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/business.sbceo.org\/memos\/?p=2518"},"modified":"2026-05-29T17:19:44","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T00:19:44","slug":"power-outage-on-may-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/business.sbceo.org\/memos\/?p=2518","title":{"rendered":"Power outage on May 28"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">Dear School Business Professionals,<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday morning at approximately 7AM, there was a power outage in the Goleta\/Santa Barbara area that impacted the Cathedral Oaks location.  There was no electricity at the site and as a result connectivity to the ITS Datacenter and Telecommunications was lost.  This meant that Escape was down for all districts and internet was interrupted for those districts that connect through SBCEO.<br \/>\n SBCEO has layers of back-up power designed to keep the network running in these instances.  This includes a UPS for short-term disruptions to the Datacenter and a large permanent generator for electricity to the entire facility.  Yesterday, our generator did not automatically start when the power outage began.  This has never occurred since the generator was installed and was the direct result of recent service conducted on the unit.  The unit had to be manually started which took time and caused the interruption in access to Escape yesterday morning.<br \/>\n The issue has been addressed, and steps are being taken to ensure that it does not occur in the future.  Additionally, SBCEO ITS is in the process of establishing a disaster recovery system for the Escape network to provide another back-up solution.<br \/>\n We apologize for the delay in access to Escape yesterday.
