The purpose of this email is to notify you that the California Department of Education (CDE) has sent an apportionment to the State Controller’s Office for payment. This apportionment, in the amount of $173,963,011, is made from the state General Fund pursuant to the California Education Code Section 8281.5(c)(1)(A) and (C). One-time funding is provided to local educational agencies (LEAs) for Universal PreKindergarten Planning and Implementation (UPK P&I) grants to support planning around access to classroom-based PreKindergarten (Pre-K) programs.
This apportionment will only include school districts and charter schools, and a future apportionment will allocate the remainder of funds for the UPK P&I Grant, including funds for county offices of education (COEs). A third apportionment will allocate the funds for the Countywide Planning and Capacity Building Grant for COEs.
The amounts paid in this apportionment reflect the estimated allocation calculated for school districts and charter schools. For more information about this apportionment, please go to the CDE web page at www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r2/upkpi2122result.asp.
Additional information regarding the UPK P&I Grant, including frequently asked questions and other programmatic and reporting requirements are available on the CDE website at www.cde.ca.gov/ci/gs/em/kinderfaq.asp.
