Application for Exemption from FY 2025–26 Apportionment Deferral Now Available – DUE March 25
Dear School Business Professionals,
Please see the attached letter from CDE regarding: Exemption from the June 2026 Apportionment Deferral.
California Education Code Section 14041.8<leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?sectionNum=14041.8.&lawCode=EDC> provides the opportunity for school districts and charter schools to apply for a dollar-limited exemption from the deferral of the Principal Apportionment payments from June 2026 to July 2026. There is no exemption provision for county offices of education.
The applications for exemption to the June 2026 deferral are now available on the CDE web page at: www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fi/ft/deferralexemption.asp. This application is due to CDE by April 1, 2026. Since these applications require certification by our office, SBAS must receive them by March 25, 2026, to allow time for review and processing.
Note: If your LEA needs a deferral exemption it is recommended to submit the application as soon as possible. CDE indicates if applications exceed the amount available, payments will be made in the order in which completed applications are received.
For more information on the deferral exemption application process, please refer to the CDE web page at: www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fi/ft/deferralexemption.asp. Questions regarding the deferral exemption process and applications should be directed to DeferralExemption@cde.ca.gov<mailto:DeferralExemption@cde.ca.gov>.
