[FCC – News from the Federal Communications Commission]
FCC ANNOUNCES START DATE OF EMERGENCY BROADBAND BENEFIT PROGRAM EBB enrollment will open on May 12, 2021 —
WASHINGTON, April 29, 2021—Today, FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announced the start date of the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program. As of May 12, 2021, eligible households will be able to enroll in the Program to receive a monthly discount off the cost of broadband service from an approved provider. Eligible households can enroll through an approved provider or by visiting link.edgepilot.com/s/8516aced/SKx3rrPM1Um_UnhZ5SiCXA?u=https://getemergencybroadband.org/<link.edgepilot.com/s/41ad341a/wavESZcPyk2v9TW-sMEWww?u=https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__getemergencybroadband.org%26d=DwMFAg%26c=L93KkjKsAC98uTvC4KvQDdTDRzAeWDDRmG6S3YXllH0%26r=…>.
“Families in every corner of the country have been struggling to get online throughout this pandemic. For those families, we now say help is around the corner. In less than two weeks, we will have a new way for disconnected Americans to access the internet to carry out their day-to-day life, so they can reach the virtual classroom, take advantage of telehealth, and seek new employment opportunities. I’m proud of the work we’ve done as an agency to get this program off the ground in record time,” said Rosenworcel. Between now and the start date, the FCC encourages partners and participating providers to conduct outreach efforts so that every eligible household knows about the program and how to sign up. The Commission will be providing a variety of materials for partners to use in their efforts to increase awareness about the program. During this time, the FCC and its program administrator, USAC, will continue to ensure that appropriate privacy and security safeguards are in place. The FCC also urges providers to continue to test their own systems for the program launch.
The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will provide eligible households with discounts of up to $50 a month for broadband service, and up to $75 a month if the household is on Tribal lands. It also will provide a one-time discount of up to $100 on a computer or tablet for eligible households.
Under the law, the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is open to households that participate in an existing low-income or pandemic relief program offered by a broadband provider; Lifeline subscribers, including those that are on Medicaid or accept SNAP benefits; households with kids receiving free and reduced-price lunch or school breakfast; Pell grant recipients; and those who have lost jobs and seen their income reduced in the last year.

SBCEO Classified School Employee of the Year Program Nominations

Dear School Business Colleagues:
It is our pleasure to invite you to submit nominations to the Santa Barbara County Education Office for the 2021 Classified School Employee of the Year (CSEY) Program. Please feel free to forward this email to others in your school district.
In 2021, it is a wonderful way for your district or charter school to recognize the dedication and skill that classified employees have brought to their work throughout the challenges of the past year. The program has some exciting changes this year to align it with the new Recognizing Inspiring School Employees (RISE<www2.ed.gov/programs/rise/index.html>) Award introduced by the U.S. Department of Education in 2020. The scope of CSEY has been expanded, and we now have the opportunity to recognize up to nine employees as Classified School Employees of the Year in Santa Barbara County — one each in the categories of:
1. Paraprofessional 2. Clerical and Administrative Services 3. Transportation Services 4. Food and Nutrition Services 5. Custodial and Maintenance Services 6. Security Services 7. Health and Student Services 8. Technical Services 9. Skilled Trades
We encourage you to submit a nomination from your district or charter school in each category relevant to your operations. If your district or school has not already done so, you may want to consider establishing an internal process for nomination and selection to celebrate your staff at the district or school level. Another important change is that the longstanding requirement for three letters of recommendation has been eliminated. Only a single nomination document is now required for each nominee, describing their merit in the areas of work performance, school and community involvement, and other criteria.
Attached are:
1. nomination form in fillable PDF format, including instructions for the required documentation 2. timeline for this year’s program 3. list of CSEY honorees in recent years.
Once selections are made, 2021 recipients as well as 2020 awardees will be recognized at a Santa Barbara County Board of Education meeting (likely to be a virtual event), and the 2021 nomination materials will be forwarded to the CDE to be considered for recognition at the state level. Statewide CSEY awardees are eligible to be nominated to become a national RISE recipient.
For each employee you wish to nominate, please submit:
1. the completed nomination form (attached) in fillable PDF format 2. the required supplemental documentation (one document only) in Microsoft Word format
by email no later than Friday, April 9, 2021 to:
Tracie Cordero, tcordero@sbceo.org<mailto:tcordero@sbceo.org> Classified Human Resources Specialist, (805) 964-4710, ext. 5212
or
Amy Ramos, aramos@sbceo.org<mailto:aramos@sbceo.org> Director of Human Resources, <mailto:aramos@sbceo.org> (805) 450-1702
If you have questions, please contact Tracie or Amy above.
Detailed nomination instructions are available here<www.cde.ca.gov/ta/sr/cl/> on the CDE website.
Please note that district nominations must be submitted to SBCEO; nominations submitted directly to the CDE will not be processed.
